Strategic Portfolio Partners Filled in 42 days, after an offer walked.

Strategic Portfolio Partners needed the complex investor lending taken off a broking arm
that kept losing its only producer.

The search before ours ran about five weeks. It reached offer stage once, and lost him there.

The challenge

Strategic Portfolio Partners needed the complex investor lending taken off a broking arm that kept losing its only producer.

  • About five weeks with an appointed recruiter, working it exclusively.
  • Six candidates run on that search, five unsuccessful.
  • One reached offer, and pulled out.

I like to recruit right people and keep them for long term. But I'm struggling to have someone stay long term in broker.

The turning point

The previous search did find people. It got one to offer stage and lost him there.
That is a package failure, not a sourcing failure.

Every broker who had sat in that chair had reached the same conclusion at about year three.

The goal was a broker who would still be there in year three, and a structure that gave them a reason to be.

The search
  1. Phase 1

    16 June: discovery

Two calls find the real problem. The trail share is raised and adopted on the same call.

  2. Phase 2

    19 June: engaged

Terms of business signed, and the search opened the same day.

  3. Phase 3

    1 July: client interviews

Candidates in front of the panel, twelve days after terms were signed.

  4. Phase 4

    31 July: offer accepted

Issued the evening of 30 July, accepted the next afternoon.

The FinTalent approach
  1. 01

Diagnosed the offer, not the search

Five weeks of exclusive searching produced a candidate at offer stage who then walked.

We read that as a signal about the role rather than about the recruiter.

  2. 02

Changed what the seat owns long term

A share of the trail, earned by staying long enough to build it.

It turns the thing that made brokers leave into the reason they stay.

  3. 03

    Got it into the contract

A promise about trail means nothing to a broker who has watched others walk.

Jack agreed to write it in, so a candidate could read it rather than trust it.

  4. 04

Screened against the last three hires

Anyone planning their own brokerage was screened out on purpose, as were hunters who need a cold pipeline.

Normally good brokers. Wrong for this seat.

They come here for three years and they say, I want to go and start my own.

Where it stands

Offer accepted 31 July 2026.

The seat now carries a trail share that switches on for a broker who stays,
which is the thing it did not have when the last two left.

Both the broker and the business are in aftercare,
so we hear from both sides rather than one.

If a search keeps reaching offer and stalling, stop looking at the candidates.

A complex investor lending broker: SMSF, trust and self-employed structures, with construction depth that matched the leads coming off the group's build arm.

He came back with questions before he said yes, one of them on how protected the trail was.
