The top 10 commercial and asset finance broking leaders in Australia in 2026

Commercial broking is where the market still has the most room, because only about three in ten brokers write business loans at all, and most businesses still borrow from the one bank they've always used. The people below built brokerages that take those deals to the whole market, from billion-dollar property desks to specialists who do nothing but pubs, pharmacies or equipment. Scored on three published criteria, so you can argue with the order.

The top commercial and asset finance broking leaders in Australia in 2026 include Jean-Pierre Gortan (Simplicity Loans & Advisory), Daniel Green (Green Finance Group), Peter O'Connor (Stamford Capital), Mark O'Donoghue (Finlease) and Son Pham (Rethink Financing), scored on scale, results and tenure using The Adviser's Top 25 Brokerages 2026, MPA's 2026 rankings and the 2025 and 2026 national awards.

The ten

Leaders of brokerages whose main business is commercial, development, business or asset finance. Banks, lenders and aggregators are out. A few of these firms also write a lot of residential, and the card says so where that's true.

1. Jean-Pierre Gortan

In seat:
Since co-founding in 2017, with Matthew Johnson
Scale:
#1 in MPA's Top Brokerages 2026; $2.3b settled in FY25
Why here:
Commercial Mortgage Brokerage of the Year, 2025
  • Scale 10/10
  • Results 10/10
  • Tenure 7/10

Total27/30

The brokerage that topped every other brokerage in MPA's 2026 ranking, residential included. Simplicity settled $2.3 billion in FY25 for seventh place in The Adviser's Top 25, won Commercial Mortgage Brokerage of the Year at The Adviser's 2025 Commercial Finance Awards, and has six brokers on MPA's Top Commercial Brokers 2026, with Gortan himself second. His colleague Joshua Diab topped The Adviser's Elite Broker commercial ranking for FY25 at $513.9 million.

Gortan's line to MPA is that commercial brokers are capital advisers rather than intermediaries, and the firm is built that way. One thing has changed: REA Group, which owns Mortgage Choice, bought 70% of Simplicity in February 2026, with the rest to follow by 2029. It's no longer independent, but it's still the benchmark.

2. Daniel Green

In seat:
Since founding in 2010
Scale:
$1.2b settled in FY25, #16 in The Adviser's Top 25
Why here:
Commercial Broker of the Year, 2025 Australian Mortgage Awards
  • Scale 7/10
  • Results 9/10
  • Tenure 8/10

Total24/30

A hospitality, accommodation and childcare finance specialist, which means pubs, clubs, motels and management rights, and the most-awarded commercial broker in the LMG network. Green won Commercial Broker of the Year at the 2025 Australian Mortgage Awards and LMG's commercial broker award in 2024, 2025 and 2026, and he sits ninth on MPA's Top Commercial Brokers 2026.

Green Finance Group runs eight locations from Fortitude Valley to Cairns and Melbourne, settled $1.2 billion in FY25 and came equal fifth in MPA's Top Brokerages 2026. Worth noting: Green says residential and investment lending has now passed half of what the firm settles, so the mix is shifting.

3. Peter O'Connor

In seat:
Managing director since 2023; firm founded 2010
Scale:
$2.5b settled in FY25, #8 in The Adviser's Top 25
Why here:
Five brokers on MPA's Top Commercial Brokers 2026
  • Scale 10/10
  • Results 9/10
  • Tenure 4/10

Total23/30

Stamford settled $2.5 billion in FY25, more than any other commercial brokerage in The Adviser's Top 25, and has five brokers on MPA's Top Commercial Brokers 2026, including Bill Moskovich at number one for the second year running. It calls itself Australia's leading independent commercial property finance broker, and the firm reports it arranged more than $5 billion in FY26.

O'Connor isn't a founder. He's a former KPMG accountant who came in as chief operating officer and took over from the founders, Domenic Lo Surdo, Michael Hynes and David Scardoni, in 2023. Scale and results are as strong as anyone's here, and tenure is the only thing holding the total back.

4. Mark O'Donoghue

In seat:
Since founding in 1989
Scale:
Over $1b a year in equipment finance, 18 offices (company figures)
Why here:
CAFBA Broker Firm of the Year, 2025
  • Scale 7/10
  • Results 6/10
  • Tenure 10/10

Total23/30

Thirty-seven years in equipment finance. O'Donoghue started Finlease in 1989 as a three-person broker for Sydney manufacturers, and it now arranges more than $1 billion a year across more than 8,000 loans, with a team of about 100 in 18 offices, by the firm's own figures.

The Commercial and Asset Finance Brokers Association named it Broker Firm of the Year in 2025. Asset finance rarely makes the headline rankings, which are built around property loans, so the scale score leans on what the firm reports about itself.

5. Son Pham

In seat:
Since founding in 2017
Scale:
Over $1b settled in 2025; #8 in MPA's Top Brokerages 2026
Why here:
Commercial Broker of the Year, 2025 Australian Broking Awards
  • Scale 7/10
  • Results 9/10
  • Tenure 6/10

Total22/30

A former financial planner who has led Rethink since it started in 2017. Pham personally wrote 493 commercial loans in FY25, the most of anyone in The Adviser's Elite Broker commercial ranking, while also ranking fifth on its residential list, and he was named Commercial Broker of the Year at the 2025 Australian Broking Awards.

Rethink settled more than $1 billion in 2025 and came eighth in MPA's Top Brokerages 2026 with an 88% conversion rate. It writes a lot of residential as well, so it could sit on the independents list just as easily.

6. Martin Kennedy

In seat:
Since founding in 2020
Scale:
#5 on MPA's Top Commercial Brokers 2026
Why here:
Commercial Mortgage Broker of the Year, 2025
  • Scale 5/10
  • Results 9/10
  • Tenure 5/10

Total19/30

A former head of corporate and property lending at BOQ in New South Wales who set up a hospitality and property debt advisory desk inside Quantaco, a hospitality data and accounting business. Kennedy won Commercial Mortgage Broker of the Year at The Adviser's 2025 Commercial Finance Awards and ranks fifth on MPA's Top Commercial Brokers 2026.

It's an unusual structure: a broking arm inside a software and accounting firm, where a venue's trading figures already sit in the same business when a loan application starts.

7. Brendan Scotter

In seat:
Since founding in 2011
Scale:
Sole operator with an outsourced team
Why here:
Overall Broker of the Year, 2026 Australian Broking Awards
  • Scale 2/10
  • Results 10/10
  • Tenure 7/10

Total19/30

The smallest business on this list and the one that beat the whole industry this year. Scotter runs Commercial Point Finance on his own with an outsourced team, and the 2026 Australian Broking Awards named him overall Broker of the Year as well as Asset Finance Broker of the Year. He'd won the asset finance category before, in 2019.

He had no finance background before starting in 2011. Scale is a two and results a ten, which tells you most of what you need to know about why rankings built only on volume miss people.

8. Mark Trayner and Dale Sparke

In seat:
Since co-founding in 2017
Scale:
Both on MPA's Top Commercial Brokers 2026
Why here:
Development Finance Brokerage of the Year, 2025
  • Scale 5/10
  • Results 7/10
  • Tenure 6/10

Total18/30

Two former senior commercial bankers whose firm name fuses their initials with the capital stack. STAC is a South East Queensland development finance specialist, won Development Finance Brokerage of the Year at The Adviser's 2025 Commercial Finance Awards, and both founders made MPA's Top Commercial Brokers 2026, each writing more than $100 million in 2025.

A team of about 13, which is the point. Development finance rewards people who've sat on the lender's side of a credit committee, and both of them have.

9. Mark Churchill

In seat:
Founder; firm dates from 2010 by its own account
Scale:
#8 on MPA's Top Commercial Brokers 2026 and 2025
Why here:
Pharmacy and health finance specialist
  • Scale 5/10
  • Results 6/10
  • Tenure 7/10

Total18/30

Nearly 30 years in health finance. Allfin describes itself as Australia's leading pharmacy finance broker, and it also finances dental, veterinary, medical and childcare businesses, and Churchill ranked eighth on MPA's Top Commercial Brokers in both 2025 and 2026.

Specialists like this rarely win the headline awards, because their deals are smaller and their clients are loyal rather than loud. That's what the results score reflects, not the quality of the work.

10. Peter Kitcher

In seat:
Since co-founding in 2022, with Darryl Schulz
Scale:
#3 on MPA's Top Commercial Brokers 2026
Why here:
Third nationally on commercial volume within four years
  • Scale 6/10
  • Results 6/10
  • Tenure 3/10

Total15/30

A former bank corporate and property lending leader who co-founded PD Capital Management in 2022 and was ranked third on MPA's Top Commercial Brokers 2026, up from seventh the year before. It's a boutique debt and capital advisory firm with a team of about five.

Short tenure keeps the total down. The volume, from a firm this young and this small, is why it's here at all.

Worth watching

Michelle Gorsevski founded Melbourne's lendlab and topped The Adviser's Elite Broker asset finance ranking for FY26 with $58.6 million settled, and leads the top asset finance brokers list. William Hong of Talk To A Broker topped the same ranking in FY24 and FY25, and his firm won Asset Finance Brokerage of the Year at The Adviser's 2025 Commercial Finance Awards. Paul Frazis of George Capital was named Commercial Broker of the Year at the 2026 Australian Broking Awards. Jarrod Smith of Perth's Transact Finance won the MFAA's 2026 national commercial and equipment finance broker award. Valiant Finance has the deepest bench of business and asset finance brokers in the country, with 19 of them in The Adviser's 2026 asset finance top 100.

What this list tells a principal who's hiring

Four of the people on this list came from the lender side: Kennedy from BOQ, Trayner and Sparke from commercial banking, and Kitcher from bank corporate and property lending. That's a common pattern in commercial broking, and it's why the hire is so different from a residential one. A good commercial broker reads a P&L, a valuation and a lender's appetite at the same time, and that usually takes years inside a bank to learn.

It's also why a residential brokerage adding commercial can get the first hire wrong. They hire a great resi writer and hope, or they hire a banker who's never had to find their own deals. The finance broking recruiters list covers who's best at finding both kinds.

Joe Shephard's verdict: When ZEP Finance needed the complex, self-employed and business-owner deals taken off the managing director's desk, the answer was one hire that covered two roles, not a banker and a broker. In a commercial seat the wrong profile costs you a year and a few referral partners before anyone admits it.

How this list is scored

  • Scale. The size of what they run: settlements, loan book, brokers, offices, using the most recent published figures.
  • Results. What's been delivered under their watch: ranking positions, growth, acquisitions, national awards.
  • Tenure. Time in the seat. Building a brokerage through more than one cycle counts for more than a good year.

Three criteria, each out of ten, for a total out of 30. The scores are my editorial judgement against published evidence: The Adviser's Top 25 Brokerages 2026, MPA's Top Brokerages 2026 and Top Commercial Brokers 2026, The Adviser's Elite Broker rankings, and the 2025 and 2026 Australian Broking Awards, Commercial Finance Awards, Australian Mortgage Awards, MFAA and CAFBA awards. Every source is listed at the foot of the page, and every person's current role was checked in October 2026 against their company's own pages, trade press or LinkedIn.

I recruit in this market rather than broke in it, so nobody from FinTalent appears on this list. Where someone on it is a FinTalent client, the card says so. Nobody paid to be here and there's no entry to buy. If you think someone's missing, I'd like to hear who and why.

Asset finance volumes are rarely published independently, so where a firm's own figures are used, the card says so.

Questions principals ask

Who is the best commercial finance broker in Australia?

On the 2026 national awards, Brendan Scotter of Commercial Point Finance was overall Broker of the Year and Paul Frazis of George Capital was Commercial Broker of the Year at the Australian Broking Awards. By brokerage, Simplicity Loans & Advisory, co-founded by Jean-Pierre Gortan, topped MPA's Top Brokerages 2026, and Stamford Capital settled the most commercial volume in The Adviser's Top 25, at $2.5 billion in FY25.

What is the biggest commercial brokerage in Australia?

On FY25 settlements in The Adviser's Top 25 Brokerages 2026, Stamford Capital at $2.5 billion and Simplicity Loans & Advisory at $2.3 billion were the largest commercial-led brokerages. Simplicity ranked first overall in MPA's 2026 ranking, which also weighs loan book and conversion. REA Group bought 70% of Simplicity in February 2026.

How many mortgage brokers also write commercial loans?

About 31.5%, according to MFAA data reported by MPA in its Top 100 Brokers 2025 report. FinTalent's experience is that most residential brokerages that add commercial do best hiring someone who has sat on the lender's side of a credit committee, rather than hoping a strong residential writer will pick it up.

Who is the top asset finance broker in Australia?

Michelle Gorsevski of lendlab topped The Adviser's Elite Broker asset finance ranking for FY26 with $58.6 million settled, after William Hong of Talk To A Broker topped it in FY24 and FY25. By firm, Finlease, founded by Mark O'Donoghue in 1989, was named CAFBA Broker Firm of the Year in 2025.
