Seven broking founders to watch in Australia in 2026

Most of the brokerages at the top of the rankings were founded before 2015. The seven below were started since 2018, and they're already in the Top 25, on the Top 100 or holding a national award. This list is about speed as much as size, scored on three published criteria, so you can argue with the order.

Seven broking founders to watch in Australia in 2026 are Todd O'Reilly and Michael Fazzolari (MedX Finance), Redom Syed and Christian Stevens (Flint), Scott Kuru and Lianna Pan (Freedom Investment Lending), Michael Killiner (Tusk Finance), Ryan Sweeney and William Banham (FRONT Financial), Maddie Walton (Money Lounge) and the four founders of Claremont Financial, scored on scale, national recognition and how quickly they got there.

The seven

Founded in 2018 or later, still run by the people who started them, and with public evidence of growth or national recognition. Founders who are already on the other people lists, such as Katie Thomas and Laith Hana, are noted below rather than counted twice.

1. Todd O'Reilly and Michael Fazzolari

Launched:
September 2023
Scale:
$769m settled in FY25; #25 in The Adviser's Top 25
Why here:
Top 25 brokerage in its second year
  • Scale 8/10
  • Recognition 7/10
  • Speed 10/10

Total25/30

A medical-only brokerage, for doctors, dentists and vets, that went from launch to 25th in The Adviser's Top 25 Brokerages 2026 in about two years, with $769 million settled in FY25. It says it settled more than $1.28 billion in FY26, and Australian Broker named it a Fast Starter in its Fast Brokerages 2026 list, with growth of 94% over two years.

It was a finalist for Major Independent Brokerage of the Year at the 2026 Australian Broking Awards, and has added a second brand, Exec Finance, for executives and high-net-worth clients. The founders say they use AI in the back office and keep it away from the client conversation, which is a sensible line for a business selling to doctors.

2. Redom Syed and Christian Stevens

Launched:
February 2024; merged with Confidence Finance in January 2025
Scale:
Five offices opened in FY26; about 70 support staff
Why here:
Syed is the FBAA's 2025 Finance Broker of the Year
  • Scale 6/10
  • Recognition 7/10
  • Speed 9/10

Total22/30

Stevens launched Flint in Sydney in February 2024 with 19 founding brokers, and in January 2025 merged it with Confidence Finance, the brokerage Syed and Curtis Stewart had run since 2015. Stevens is chief executive and Syed managing director. MPA reported that Flint finished FY26 with its biggest settlement month on record, opened five offices in the year, and now runs a support team of about 70 across credit, processing, post-settlement and compliance.

Syed was named the FBAA's national Finance Broker of the Year in 2025, and credits the YouTube channel he posts to four times a week. Flint was a finalist for Brokerage of the Year for firms over 20 staff at the 2026 Australian Mortgage Awards. It isn't yet in The Adviser's or MPA's brokerage rankings, which use FY25 and calendar 2025 figures, and the volumes it quotes are its own, so the scale score is held back for now.

The pitch to brokers is ownership. Under Flint's director model a broker keeps their trail and their clients, and uses Flint's brand and back office to grow. Stevens' line is that most good brokers leave because they own nothing, and it's hard to argue with.

3. Scott Kuru and Lianna Pan

Founded:
2020, per MPA
Scale:
#24 in The Adviser's Top 25 ($783m); #13 in MPA's Top Brokerages 2026
Why here:
Over $1b settled in 2025, about five years in
  • Scale 8/10
  • Recognition 6/10
  • Speed 7/10

Total21/30

An investment lending specialist that settled more than $1 billion in 2025, according to MPA, which ranked it 13th in its Top Brokerages 2026. It came 24th in The Adviser's Top 25 with $783 million in FY25, and was a winner in Australian Broker's Fast Brokerages 2026.

Most of its lending is for brand-new investment property. Co-founder Lianna Pan is a qualified actuary who built the firm's systems, and the firm now has about 20 writers across five cities.

4. Michael Killiner

Founded:
November 2023, with Jemima Pope-Brien
Scale:
#47 MPA Top 100; #24 Elite Broker ($187.7m, 279 loans)
Why here:
Top 100 broker in the firm's first full year
  • Scale 5/10
  • Recognition 6/10
  • Speed 9/10

Total20/30

A former real estate agent who cold-called the country's top brokers to learn the trade, then opened Tusk Finance in Perth in November 2023. In the business's first full financial year he was 47th on MPA's Top 100 Brokers and 24th in The Adviser's Elite Broker ranking, with $187.7 million across 279 loans.

He builds his pipeline through education, with content he says reaches more than 100,000 people a month and a property podcast. Writing close to a loan a day from Subiaco makes the case that you don't need a big-city office to make the Top 100.

5. Ryan Sweeney and William Banham

Founded:
2024
Scale:
Sweeney #40 on MPA's Top 100 Brokers 2025
Why here:
New Brokerage of the Year finalist, 2025
  • Scale 5/10
  • Recognition 5/10
  • Speed 9/10

Total19/30

Two mates since their teens who were once rival brokers, at Shore Financial and MortgageWorks on one side and Loan Market on the other, and started FRONT Financial together in 2024. Sweeney was 40th on MPA's Top 100 Brokers in 2025, and FRONT was a finalist for New Brokerage of the Year at the 2025 Australian Mortgage Awards.

In 2026 it moved to Finsure's network and opened a Sydney CBD office. The stated goal is to be Australia's leading brokerage, and two years in it's already on a national awards shortlist.

6. Maddie Walton

Founded:
2024
Recognition:
New Brokerage of the Year, 2025 Australian Mortgage Awards
Why here:
A national award inside two years
  • Scale 2/10
  • Recognition 8/10
  • Speed 8/10

Total18/30

A former medical scientist who started Money Lounge from her Gold Coast home in 2024 and won New Brokerage of the Year at the 2025 Australian Mortgage Awards. She was also the MFAA's Queensland Newcomer of the Year in 2025 and is one of MPA's Elite Women for 2026.

Money Lounge grows through financial education content, with a following of more than 23,000 for @moneywithmaddie. It doesn't publish settlement figures, so the scale score is low, but very few brokerages win a national award this early.

7. Claremont Financial

Founded:
2025
Recognition:
New Office of the Year, 2026 Australian Broking Awards
Why here:
A national award in its first year
  • Scale 2/10
  • Recognition 7/10
  • Speed 9/10

Total18/30

Four co-founders launched Claremont Financial in Richmond in May 2025, and a year later it was named New Office of the Year at the 2026 Australian Broking Awards. O'Sullivan was one of MPA's Rising Stars in 2023, and the firm was also a finalist for best new broker group in AFG's awards.

There are no published volumes yet, so this one is on recognition and speed alone. Four founders splitting one brokerage is either the strongest start on this list or the hardest partnership to keep together, and the next two years will tell.

Also worth knowing

Katie Thomas founded Focus Finance in Newcastle and topped The Adviser's Elite Broker ranking for FY25. She heads the top mortgage brokers list. Laith Hana founded House of Finance in 2018 and was second on MPA's Top 100 in 2025; he's on the independent brokerage leaders list. Mina Gergis has led Loan Path Finance since 2019, ranked 15th on MPA's Top 100 in 2025, and took a 28% investment from AFG to fund acquisitions. Peter Nguyen's GOAT Financial Services, a self-employed and alt-doc specialist, posted 178% growth in Australian Broker's Fast Brokerages 2026, from a low base by his own account. Kobe Clarke-Jacobs of Melbourne's Finance with Kobe was named an MPA Rising Star in 2026.

What this list tells a principal who's hiring

Every one of these founders was somebody's broker, banker or support hire a few years ago. Killiner was a real estate agent, Walton a medical scientist, Syed an economist at Treasury, and Sweeney and Banham were writing for other brokerages. The people most likely to start the next firm on this list are in your team now, and the brokerages that keep them are the ones that give them a path before they go looking for one.

None of that is a reason to hire scared. Know what your best people want in three years, and build the seat around it. Our piece on switching brokerages is written for brokers, and it's worth a principal reading too.

Joe Shephard's verdict: I'd rather place someone who might start their own brokerage in five years than someone who never would. The ones with that drive write more, train others and raise the standard of everyone around them while they're there. Plan for it, talk about it openly, and you get the best of them for longer.

How this list is scored

  • Scale. How big the business is already: settlements, rankings reached, brokers and offices.
  • Recognition. National awards and national rankings, rather than aggregator or lender awards.
  • Speed. How fast they got there. A Top 25 place in two years counts for more than the same place in ten.

Three criteria, each out of ten, for a total out of 30. The scores are my editorial judgement against published evidence: The Adviser's Top 25 Brokerages 2026, MPA's Top Brokerages 2026 and Top 100 Brokers 2025, The Adviser's Elite Broker 2025, Australian Broker's Fast Brokerages 2026, and the 2025 and 2026 Australian Mortgage Awards, Australian Broking Awards and MFAA Excellence Awards. Every source is listed at the foot of the page, and every person's current role was checked in October 2026 against their company's own pages, trade press or LinkedIn.

I recruit in this market rather than broke in it, so nobody from FinTalent appears on this list. Where someone on it is a FinTalent client, the card says so. Nobody paid to be here and there's no entry to buy. If you think someone's missing, I'd like to hear who and why.

Founding years are taken from the firm or trade press, and where registers disagree the card says which source it uses. Volume figures a firm reports about itself, such as MedX's FY26 settlements, are labelled as its own.

Questions principals ask

What is the fastest-growing mortgage brokerage in Australia?

On rankings reached, MedX Finance went from its September 2023 launch to 25th in The Adviser's Top 25 Brokerages 2026, and says it settled more than $1.28 billion in FY26. On percentage growth, Australian Broker's Fast Brokerages 2026 list measures combined revenue and settlement growth, and its Fast Starters included MedX, Focus Finance and GOAT Financial Services.

Who won New Brokerage of the Year in Australia?

Money Lounge, founded by Maddie Walton on the Gold Coast in 2024, won New Brokerage of the Year at the 2025 Australian Mortgage Awards. At the 2026 Australian Broking Awards, Melbourne's Claremont Financial was named New Office of the Year.

How long does it take a new brokerage to make the Top 25?

For most, a decade or more. MedX Finance did it in its second year, Freedom Investment Lending in about five, and Mason Finance Group in about four. The common thread is a narrow niche, whether that's doctors, new investment property or one regional market, and the systems to scale it.

How do I keep a broker who might start their own brokerage?

Talk about it early and build a path that's worth staying for, whether that's equity, a book of their own, or leading a team. FinTalent's experience is that brokers with that drive are the ones worth hiring, and the principals who keep them longest are the ones who plan for it openly rather than pretending it won't come up.
